Edyth Jeannette Wood passed away on Monday July 22, 2024, at her residence at The Bluffs in Columbia, Missouri. Edyth was born July 19, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to Russell Parrish O’Bannon and Alta Charity Eriksen O’Bannon. She was raised in the Alta Iowa area and graduated from Fairview High School in 1948. Edyth and her family moved to Madison, Missouri in 1950.

 

Edyth married Arlen Claudie Wood on June 5, 1954, in Mound City, Kansas. They made their home in Virginia while Arlen served in the Navy, and later lived in Clarence, Waynesville, and Centralia, Missouri. Edyth worked in government service for more than 30 years prior to retiring in 1990. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Centralia and was active in the KZ Chapter of PEO in Centralia.

 

Edyth is survived by her two children, Arlen Claudie “Twig” Wood, Jr. (Bondi) of Columbia and Beth Michelle Myers (Loren) of Little River, Kansas; grandchildren Joseph Arlen Wood (Devin) of Sturgeon, Missouri, Maggie May Lamle (TJ) of Aline, Oklahoma, and Cindy Sue Jones (Casey) of Aline, Oklahoma, and step grandchildren, Cindy Richardson of Wichita, Kansas, and Krista Fedigan (Jim) of Texas. Edyth has seven great grandchildren: Addie, Avery, and Carter Wood; Lainie and Ayla Lamle; Tori and Trent Jones; and two step grandchildren, April and Kyle Richardson; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Edyth was preceded in death by her husband, Arlen, on February 23, 1993; a grandson, James John Wempe on April 8, 1987, her parents, her sister, Ruth Harrison, brothers Roger and Richard O’Bannon, two sisters in law, and one brother-in-law.

 

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Oliver Funeral Home in Centralia, MO. Interment will be in the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Madison, MO. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to service time on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Oliver Funeral Home in Centralia, MO.
